Kate H. Knapp

Head Recipe Tester & Shop Editor at Eat Boutique
Kate H. Knapp has been cooking since she was stove-high and whisk-strong. She comes from a long line of cooks and bakers, from whom she learned the sweet power of sugar, the thrill of egg whites, the magic of leftovers, and the importance of being fearless in the kitchen. Kate works as the Urbanist Boston City Guide Editor and has recently earned a Masters in Gastronomy. She spends her free time testing recipes, practicing food photography, and reading cookbooks. Her recipe for life is a work in progress—needs a dash more of this and a pinch of that—but she couldn't be happier with her ingredients.

What We Love: Sweet French Recipes

What We Love: Sweet French Recipes

I remember the exact moment I fell head-over-to-the-moon in love with Paris. All it took was a simple bite of an éclair from a hole-in-the-wall bakery in Montmartre. Somehow every happy and beautiful moment of my life was captured in each bite of airy pastry, dark chocolate, and vanilla cream. This was not the grocery-store, soggy, yellow-custard-filled éclairs of my youth. Oh

What We Love: Bridal Shower Dishes & Drinks Worth Celebrating

What We Love: Swoon-Worthy Bridal Shower Dishes

Five weddings. An entire handful of my dearest and most darling friends are tying the knot this year (four of them within a five-week span!). It’s like the old saying, “when it rains love, it pours weddings.” And with weddings comes bridal showers. I couldn’t be over-the-moon to celebrate the bride (or couple) with family and friends.

Author Maria Speck Talks Grains, Quick-Cooking Tips, and Her Favorite Food Gift (+ A Cookbook Giveaway)

Maria Speck is a grain guru. I bestow upon her this title, not only because she is an award-winning author with two cookbooks on the subject, but also because she elevates the humble grain into the main attraction of any meal with very little effort. We here at Eat Boutique have been long-time fans of hers

A Taste of History (and Chocolate) in Boston

A Taste of History (and Chocolate) in Boston

I’ve lived in Boston for more than 10 years, and I hate to admit that I’ve taken its incredible history for granted. I recently paid a visit to the Old North Church Campus in the North End, and discovered a treasure trove of historical sites and information. In just one block, you can smell and taste a piece of chocolate

Using Jam Beyond the Jar With Blue Chair Fruit

Exciting Ways to Use Jam Beyond the Jar With Blue Chair Fruit

We’ve been long-time fans of crafting cocktails out of everyday jams, but Rachel Saunders, creative mastermind behind Blue Chair Fruit, exceeds even our wildest imaginations of how transformative a spoonful of preserved fruit can really be in her newest cookbook, Blue Chair Cooks with Jam & Marmalade. The book features 150 recipes, ranging from paella to pastries, divided

What We Love: 10 Crackers and Crisps Perfect for Food Gifts

What We Love: Crackers & Crisps

One of my favorite things to bring to a potluck or a friend’s dinner party is a well-crafted cheese platter or a homemade dip. And, in these moments, plain-old crackers simply won’t do as an accompaniment. I want something unique, delicious, and above-all made with love. It turns out I am not alone in this desire and I found a

Adding Whole Grains to Your Morning with Maker and Cookbook Author Megan Gordon

As many of you know, we’ve been long-time fans of Marge Granola and have worked with her for more than three years. So we were pretty tickled when its founder, Megan Gordon, wrote an entire cookbook, Whole Grain Morning: New Breakfast Recipe to Span the Seasons, last year devoted to eating a happy and healthy breakfast. To

Tea Time With “Steeped: Recipes Infused With Tea” Cookbook Author Annelies Zijderveld

Tea is such a lovely creation. So much comfort and goodness in one cup. It warms you on a cold day, puts a bit of pep in your step when you’re feeling sluggish, and makes you feel better when your under-the-weather. It was about time someone took all of this wonderfulness beyond the mug and

What We Love: Cooking With Beer

What We Love: Beer-Inspired Dishes for St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations

When I was growing up, St. Patrick’s Day typically meant two things: corned beef and pinches. The latter involved the tradition (at least where I grew up) of getting pinched if you weren’t wearing green on the holiday. My brother took full advantage of this and it became a game of who could outsmart the

Bon Appetit: Mimi Thorisson on her Kitchen in France & her Aunt’s Fava Bean Soup

Warning: This article may inspire you to move to a farmhouse in France. Mimi Thorisson has that power. I started reading her blog, Manger, years ago and I’m still plotting my escape overseas. Mimi’s life on her stunning farmhouse in France, complete with adorable children and cuter-than-cute dogs, would be enough reason to make us jump ship, but then

Apotheker’s Kitchen: Bee-Sweetened Hot Cocoa & The Secret Life of Chocolatiers

Just one taste of their honey-sweetened confections, and you know instantly that Russ and Shari Apotheker of Apotheker’s Kitchen were destined to create all-natural and delicious chocolates (and marshmallows, for that matter). Their handcrafted treats are made with only the very best ingredients, like their chocolate, which is organically and biodynamically grown and sourced from a small,

What We’re Loving: Spicy Dishes for Valentine’s Day

Oh, Valentine’s Day, how I have loathed and loved you. I hate being told what to do (especially when it comes to showing affection for those I care about), but I love chocolate, champagne, and all the wonderful food gifts the holiday produces. This year, however, I’m skipping the sweet treats and celebrating with the “hot stuff,”

What We’re Loving: Party Dips to Please a Crowd

Ok, here goes. I am not, nor have I ever been, a football fan (please don’t hate me). I am, however, a huge fan of any excuse to bring people together and eat, which is why I tend to like sporting events like the Superbowl. I mean, what’s not to like? Friends gather together over a variety of finger

Feast On This: The Beauty and Charm of Calligraphy with Jenny Milwid

The Beauty and Charm of Calligraphy with Jenny Milwid

It’s rare to receive a handwritten anything, really, these days (let’s start sending postcards, ok?), which is why we are in awe of those who put pen to paper with an artistic and elegant flourish. Jenny Milwid, a Boston-based calligrapher and artist (launching a leather goods business later this month), is just such a person,

Dave’s Coffee Talks (Coffee) Shop, Tiramisu, & Boozy Coffee Milk

Coffee. Incredible how one simple word can cause such happiness. And one small Rhode Island company is certainly making people smile with their one-of-a-kind creations. We’ve been long-time fans of Dave’s Coffee–in fact, their coffee syrup is always a big hit at our pop-up events and we’ve even featured their shop before. We caught up with Dave Lanning, CEO of Dave’s Coffee, to
