My best friend recently got a Vitamix in the mail from her mother-in-law, and I immediately began to “ooh” and “ahh,” as I’d coveted this particular appliance for many, many years. My husband had told me to just buy one already (after he’d caught me looking at different models on the internet one time too many), but I couldn’t bring myself to spend the money. However, my best friend (there are many reasons this girl is my best friend, and this is one of them) sent my husband a text one day, asking if he wanted to do something nice for me. When he replied that he did, she told him to buy me a Vitamix.

The Vitamix arrived and has sat, unopened, in our living room for several weeks now. When my husband complained about this to my friend, she responded that when you get something like this, you want to take your time with it. Explore all the functions. Read all of the recipes in the accompanying cookbook. Savor it. (See? I told you she’s the best.) I think it’s time to open the box. And I think I’ll reward myself with a smoothie… I hear a Vitamix is good for that.

Herbs pair so wonderfully with fruit, complementing the sweetness with fresh, clean flavors. As blueberries come into season, I’m excited to try this Blueberry Basil Smoothie. Bee pollen and hemp seeds add great health benefits this glass of deliciousness. {from My New Roots}

A new grocery store opened in my neighborhood pretty recently, and the in-store coffee stand also makes smoothies. I find it difficult to resist the pull of the green smoothies each time I go in, but now that I can make this Pineapple Chia Green Smoothie at home, I might spend my money on actual groceries! {from Jelly Toast}

I have a weakness for all things lemon-poppy seed: muffins, scones, cake, and now this smoothie. Dates and almond butter replace the flour and sugar in these Lemon Poppy Seed Smoothies, topped with a straw instead of a sweet glaze! {from Dishing Up the Dirt}

For those days when I want to splurge a little, I’ll try this Bubbly Ginger Blood Orange Smoothie, which uses a little bit of ginger ale to add an extra kick! {from Running to the Kitchen}

I think the word “smoothie” often makes one thing about frozen drinks with a fruity, tropical flavor. This Strawberry Mango Smoothie is therefore the perfect example of a definitive smoothie, but the layering of the flavors puts a gorgeous spin on a classic! {from Jessiker Bakes}

Finally, this Beet, Turmeric, and Mango Smoothie is one of the more unique recipes I’ve ever seen. Banana, ginger and orange round out this zesty smoothie. Turmeric is known for its health benefits, and I bet detoxification never tasted so good! {from The Roasted Root}

    Smoothies are one of my food groups though I’m not sure mine are as lovely as the ones you show. Beautiful photography.
