It’s finally getting chilly in New England, just in time to enjoy the best season of all. I’m in the midst of drying herbs for the long winter (that’s apparently supposed to be mild this year!), storing away jars and jars of apple sauce, and planning for the Eat Boutique Boston Holiday Market. We’re also launching a ton of new products in the Eat Boutique Shop.
Gosh, I need a drink after typing all that.
And when the weather turns cold, I return to my old standby: The Old Fashioned Cocktail. I’ve mastered a super simple one that hits the spot on Friday nights when I’m not going anywhere special but want to feel totally spoiled. Just four easy ingredients and a big ice cube or two. Sometimes I add in a little club soda to dilute it. Other times, I love it just as it is. Either way, it’s delicious.
Old Fashioned Cocktail
Makes 1 drink
- 2 ounces Bourbon
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup
- 3 drops of Angostura bitters
- 1 thick piece of orange zest
- Peel orange zest over cocktail glass and then toss into glass.
- Add in Bourbon, maple syrup and bitters with 1-2 big ice cubes. Stir gently and serve.
