Happy 4th of July, almost! To help you get in the patriotic spirit, and to take full advantage of all the gorgeous berries popping up at markets right now, we have rounded up a few stunning new takes on a notorious Independence Day dessert: the flag cake. Yes, we’ve all seen the whipped topping and pound cake creation at a 4th of July picnic. (And yes, I have made one in my lifetime. Many, many moons ago.) But do any of us really enjoy it? I know I would love these versions instead:
Tartlets just sound cute. But, I like everything in petite form. And I would love to see these Vanilla Cream Pies with Summer Berries on a dessert table this 4th. {from Roost}
The recipe for this gorgeous White Chocolate Raspberry Tart suggests using the leftover filling as a dip for berries. Genius. {from have cake, will travel}
This Coconut Cake with Berries and Cream looks insanely moist and even a bit messy. Good. Eating in the backyard shouldn’t be a formal affair. {from shutterbean}
These Fourth of July Cake Bites combine quite a few favorites: raspberry preserves, raspberry liquer and cream cheese frosting. {from Haniela’s food & photography}.
Yes, this Strawberry Short Cakes recipe may call for cool whip, pound cake, strawberries and blueberries. But my oh my does it look pretty and so put together. Easy and no-bake, sure. Flag cake, no way. {from Bakers Royale}
Remember when? We got into the spirit here on Eat Boutique last year with this Summer Strawberry and Blueberry Pavlova. {from Eat Boutique, adapted from Gwyneth Paltrow’s My Father’s Daughter: Delicious, Easy Recipes Celebrating Family & Togetherness}
And just for fun, I’d love to whip up a vanilla frosted cake or even top a bowl of vanilla ice cream with these adorable 4th of July Cake Poms. {from Potter and Butler}
