Eat Boutique Local Market - Summer Events & Recipes

Summer and I have a thing for each other.

But that wasn’t so when I was young. In fact, I hated summer as a kid. It was just so hot and air conditioning was a luxury not meant for us. But as I got older, I got wiser and like the Pink Ladies sing in that song “Summer Nights” in the movie-musical Grease, it’s now totally love at first sight.

Which is good because summer’s coming. It’s still almost six weeks away, but I feel like it’s closer than ever. Like it’s just over yonder, around that tiny bend, hiding under that big old tree, simply waiting to provide a warm breeze and a bit of shade during my cocktail hour. Summer cocktail hours are the best.

Luckily, we’re scheming up some fun ways to meet up with all of you this summer and, perhaps, toast the season and amazing handmade food. We’re planning our summer gift box and a pop up local market dedicated exclusively to handmade food purveyors and the people who love handmade food – you, us, everyone!

If you want to hear about the new items in the summer gift box or the first Eat Boutique Local Market – like the date, location, purveyors attending – we encourage you to be the first to know by subscribing to our site on the right hand side of this page. (There’s a little entry field that says “subscribe now” over there.) We promise never to sell your email address and to only use it for good – like sending you good recipes, invitations, gift box updates and pretty photos of food. Who doesn’t want pretty photos of food?!

Summer Cordials, Cocktails, Gift Box & Local Market

In exchange, we’d like to make sure that all of our summer stuff really reflects your tastes too. Do you know a local purveyor who should have a spot in our summer gift box or be included in our first Local Market? Tell us in the comments. If you’re shy about commenting – no worries – email Maggie.

To tide you ever until we share more details and get you ready for summer, we think you have some cordials and cocktails to start making! A little effort now on these cordials will make cocktail hour far easier during those summer nights. We also threw in some instant cocktails so you have something to sip while you’re making those cordials. Happy almost summer and thanks, in advance, for your support!

Honey & Saffron Liquor: Great on its own or mixed with bubbly

Rhubarb Cordial: Serve it cold and just as the sun sets

Rhubarb Rosemary Simple Syrup: Mix it with bubble water and your favorite spirit (gin or vodka preferred)

Meyer Lemon Liquor: Add your favorite herbs for a bit of zing

Organic Limoncello: Because no summer meal is complete without a sip

Cucumber & Lime Spritzer: With or without booze, it’s summer in a pitcher

Watermelon Margarita: Watermelon and tequila can’t be wrong

Bourbon Peach Punch: Jessica created a winner with ripe summer peaches

The Ultimate Cosmopolitan: For your summer Carrie Bradshaw moment

All photos by Maggie Battista, except for that pretty rhubarb cocktail up at the top. That photo is by Sarah Gilbert.

If you’d like to send a gift box of handmade food to a friend now, you can! Order the Eat Boutique Spring Gift Box now.

I discovered how much I love cucumber cocktails last summer. I will be sure to try out your Cucumber & Lime spritzer as soon as I can start entertaining outside… (It actually might be possible today- so pretty out there!)

It really is gorgeous today, Shelby. I’m going down to Fort Port Channel at lunch and I’m tempted to sit myself down at Sportello with some wine and never leave… Sun always gets me in a cocktail mood.

Oh I hope you did get down to Sportello.  After the weather we’ve been having … having some cocktails would be expected.  Can’t wait to try out that rhubarb cordial!
