Hi Maggie! I saw your comment on David Lebovitz's most recent post and so I thought I would visit. I read this post and had the following thoughts.

Hi Maggie! If this is the case, "I want to live like a Parisienne, shopping the sweetest local markets ...", then I would say make sure to venture out to outlying arrondissements. Take in the local market at the Place des Fêtes, for example (sorry for the long link, but info on the marchés of Paris here: http://www.paris.fr/portail/marches_parisiens/Por... or maybe the one on the Blvd de la Villette.

There is "upper crust" Paris and then there is "everyday" Paris. No Parisien/ne (and this includes the expats I know, too) I know goes to Ladurée, for example, very often at all. Sure, it's nice to try once, but if you really want to live like a resident of Paris, keeping it real is really more what it is about. Get out of the center of Paris that most people write about and experience where people actually live day-to-day lives, not a fantasy of what Paris is supposed to be. Just my take on what a true Paris experience would include! :)

I was introduced to Paris by a very close friend and fell in love with the city in my own way. We each see the beauty of Paris in a different way and fall in love with the city and its people. The relationships that one develops can not be forgotten only allow them to grow and grow. Thank you Paris, thank you my close friend.

Oh Maggie what a fab list! When you've tasted mille-feuilles, in Paris and come back home, you must tell me where I can find ones just like them here. The Napolean's in New England are more Italian than French.

just wanted to note, with that first comment, some weird, uncontrolled cutting and pasting took place without my knowledge--that random phone number and zip? it's the rest of the address/phone info for Francoise Auget's shop. maybe you already figured that out.

here's what you didn't ask for but i can't resist because your list sounds exhausting! when you're so tired and need to steam and detox, i recommend to this hammam in the marais (which i always misread as the lesbians of the marais :) -- the massage et gommage service is fabulous

for the best caramels, anywhere (IMHO), you must go to jacques genin in the marais. you can only get them there, too, which makes it extra special. there are all different flavors. his chocolates aren't bad either.

for oysters, L’Ecume St.-Honoré 6 Rue du Marché St.-Honoré, Paris 75001, +33 (0)1 42 61 93 87
133 Rue de Turenne

your new best friend, Tara, is an expert on all of the food markets, and also knows about some co-op type options where you can have seasonal, organic bounty dropped off at your apartment every week.

xo

CD

vintage, in general, best dealer in Paris is Didier Ludot, who has a shop in the Palais Royale (a few doors over from Acme, and not so very far from Corto Moltedo's shop--his bags are AMAZING, not vintage, though). Be advised, the Ludot stuff ain't cheap. Other one to investigate is Francoise Auget. Her address is: 23, rue de l'Echaude (6th arr)
