Food-Trip: Brooklyn, New York

My husband’s job may be sending him to Brooklyn, New York sometime before the close of 2007. This news is not as exciting for him as it is for me. I am one of the biggest fans of NYC; I grew up 15 minutes outside of Manhattan and then lived in Manhattan during my early 20s. I have a short list of boutique restaurants I want to visit while there, but would love to hear your suggestions for the best boutique restaurants in Manhattan or Brooklyn. Please post them in comments, and include web links if you can. My only request is that they truly be boutique restaurants – started by independent small business owners, without big business investment. So no T.G.I.F.’s, ok?

Already on the short list:

(BTW, isn’t that poster cool? It’s for sale over at Ork Posters.)

Brooklyn – better than Manhattan in my book.

Frankie’s is one of my favorite Brooklyn spots …

And nearby is Brooklyn Social Club for a cocktail!

I love Perry Street for lunch. It’s the Jean-Georges place in the base of the Richard Meier buildings in the West Village.

Does Jean-Georges count as big business at this point? He has a bunch of places now, but Perry St. is special.

I think that Jean-George is officially big business – unless he had to mortgage his house or vacation home to start Perry Street (which I doubt). :)

If you love it though, I may have to pop by… That’s right around the corner from you, right?

yup. Very close to Spotted Pig as well.
I’d take Perry St. over Spotted Pig any day and I bet Bono’s far richer than Jean Georges.
3 course prix fixe lunch is $25 and well worth it.
